One of the most heartbreaking barriers to entering addiction treatment is the fear of leaving a beloved pet behind. Many people delay or avoid getting help entirely because they don't have a trusted person to care for their dog or cat while they're in treatment or sober living. Bubbie's Place was created to remove that barrier completely.
Through our temporary pet foster program, we match your pet with a caring, vetted foster family in Connecticut who will love and care for them while you focus on your recovery. Your pet stays safe. How Bubbie's Place Works
Step 1 — Apply
Fill out this short application with your information and your pet's details. All submissions are reviewed confidentially by our volunteer coordinator.
Step 2 — We Review
Our team reviews your application within 48 hours and contacts you to confirm details, answer questions, and begin the matching process.
Step 3 — Foster Match
We match your pet with a screened, approved foster family near you. Foster care typically lasts 30–90 days, with flexibility based on your treatment timeline.
Step 4 — Stay Updated
Your foster family sends you regular photos and updates so you can stay connected with your pet throughout your recovery journey.
Who Qualifies for Bubbie's Place?
Bubbie's Place is open to anyone in Connecticut who is entering or currently enrolled in an addiction treatment program, detox facility, inpatient rehab, or transitional sober living. We work with individuals at all stages of recovery and with all types of situations — there is no judgment here, only support.

- ✓Your pet is up to date on vaccinations (or you are willing to arrange this)

- ✓You intend to reclaim your pet upon completing treatment
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this service free?
Yes. Bubbie's Place is a completely free program offered by Hope for Recovery, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. There is no cost to surrender your pet into temporary foster care.
Is my information kept confidential?
Absolutely. All information you provide — including your treatment center, counselor's name, and personal details — is kept strictly confidential and used only to coordinate your pet's foster placement.
What happens if my stay in treatment is extended?
We understand that recovery timelines can change. If your stay is extended, simply contact our coordinator and we will work with your foster family to extend the care arrangement at no additional cost.
Can I get updates on my pet while I'm in treatment?
Yes. We encourage foster families to send regular photos and updates to our coordinator, who will pass them along to you through your treatment facility or emergency contact as appropriate.
What if I cannot take my pet back after treatment?
We will work with you on a case-by-case basis. Our primary goal is always to reunite you with your pet. If circumstances make that impossible, we will help connect you with responsible rehoming resources.
Does my pet need to be vaccinated?
Yes. For the safety of foster families and their existing pets, all animals entering the program must be current on vaccinations, or arrangements must be made to update them before placement.
